Ghirardelli Square Chocolate Factory
established 1899 by Domingo Ghirardelli an Italian immigrant. His greatest contribution to confectionery is the Broma Process; making dry, powdered chocolate. The property includes the Woolen Mill, Apartment Building, Chocolate Building, Cocoa Building, Clock Tower and Power House and is declared a San Francisco landmark.

On Alcatraz Island, visitors can see the site of the first lighthouse and US fort on the West Coast and the federal penitentiary long off-limits to the public. Rich in history, there are also wonderful, natural sights to be seen: gardens, tide pools, bird colonies, and bay views.

Just north of the intersection of Hyde and Beach streets, you'll find the turnaround for the Powell-Hyde San Francisco Cable Car line. Catching one of the cars at the Hyde turnaround, you can ride it up Hyde Street, by the block of Lombard Street, over Russian and Nob Hills, past Union Square to Powell and Market Streets.
