Our History

Bill McCormick and Doug Schmick teamed up in the 1970s to establish more than 80 restaurants and catering operations throughout the country - an extraordinary feat in a business with the highest attrition rate of any in the United States. The history of McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurants began with the purchase of Jake's Famous Crawfish Restaurant located in Portland, Oregon, bringing the more than 100-year-old landmark back to life. Several years later, the original McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant opened, and since then, has grown to become the nation's premier family of seafood restaurants.

In 2004, McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurants, Inc. became a public company, trading on the NASDAQ as MSSR. In early 2007 McCormick & Schmick’s purchased five Boathouse Restaurant locations in Vancouver, BC. Since then, another has opened. In 2012, McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurants became a part of the Landry’s, Inc. family, joining more than 300 locations nationwide, including restaurants, hotels and entertainment centers.

While the number of restaurants has grown, the original vision remains in providing the freshest seafood, at a value, in a comfortable setting while providing extraordinary service. Making it work are the company's leaders and more than 7,000 employees. The continued emphasis on open imagination and a respect for tradition is what makes McCormick & Schmick's the classic and successful business that it is today.
